“Walked in the garden with our dear Vicky & talked very earnestly of many things. We so completely understand one another. She is a dear, clever, good affectionate child, & we are like 2 sisters! […] After luncheon, to Winterhalter with Vicky, who after looking at the pictures, sat for the water colour sketch. […]
At ½ went into the White Drawingroom. Vicky looked lovely & regal in a pale yellow dress trimmed with Brussels lace & wearing beautiful pearls & diamonds. I felt so proud of her. […] Vicky saw nearly all her old acquaintances, & it was delightful to see the pleasure of everyone at seeing her again. Her manner perfect. All was over by ¼ to 1. We took Vicky to her rooms, — alas! her last night!”
